A Day on the Seattle Waterfront

A cool misty morning on the water of Elliott Bay in Seattle provides a view of Mount Rainier rising out of the fog like a dream. The wind beat against us as we leaned forward urging the huge ferry forward through the green water. Like thirsty dogs we sniffed the sea scented air willing our bodies to remember every detail. The clouds parted and the sun came out. A rainbow appeared over the seaport of Seattle as a group of laughing people floated past us in their sailboat enjoying the warm sunlight. It was a moment to remember.

Sunday Gallery - Seattle Evening Romance

One wondrous evening in Seattle I was totally enchanted. Going from a land of mountains and dry sage in Colorado to the seascape of the Pacific Northwest is a dramatic change to the senses; with the gently falling rain, the ocean's salty scent, and the sailboats floating lazily like giant birds on a giant pond. We stood mesmerized watching the ships for quite some time and then decided to have dinner on the waterfront deck of our hotel. The breeze was a little chilly but undaunted we "layered up" as we say in the mountains, unwilling to give up our intoxication with the waterscape. I caught our reflection in the window and smiled. Afterward, we walked hand in hand along the waterfront as the sun slowly descended into the water of the sea.

Childhood Dreams

The young boy intently gazing into the fountain's pool sparks a question in my mind. What dreams does he have as he peers into the sparkling blue green water? I do not know his name, or his parents who were standing protectively nearby. He just happened to find his way into my viewfinder on a perfect Seattle day.

Sunday Gallery - Pike Place Market in Seattle

Seagulls, fresh fish, flowers, fruit and crafts all crowd together at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. The day we visited a cruise ship had just released a couple football stadiums full of passengers and it was raining. Undaunted, we bumped and jostled our way through the vast collection of stalls.

We saw the fish throw, ate fresh roasted cashews, and bought a few souvenirs. Ric, the kind hearted gent that he is, paid a street hawker for an illegible poem. Mostly I was just amazed at the rows and rows of fresh flowers and the produce that melts in your mouth with juiciness.

The market overlooks Elliott Bay in Seattle and opened August 17, 1907. It is one of the oldest continually operated public farmers' markets in the United States and remains one of Seattle's most popular tourist destinations. Built on the edge of a steep hill, it consists of several levels and features a variety of unique shops and attractions.

Pike Place Market is definitely a destination not to be missed in any visit to Seattle. I highly recommend visiting and partaking of this unique cornucopia!

Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle - Part 1

Our first day in Seattle found stormy rainy weather. Imagine that! Coming from the arid west we were looking forward to this natural phenomenon. After checking into the Edgewater Hotel right on Elliott Bay, we decided to put on our rain gear and take a walk to the Olympic Sculpture Park a few blocks away. We were lucky that the rain stopped even though the skies remained gray and I could snap photos to my hearts content. Here are my first of many more to come. What do you think?

On Vacation in the Pacific Northwest

I am packing my bag and getting out of town. Well, so to speak since I do not live in town. But none the less, I'm heading out, hitting the road, taking off. My destination is the Pacific Northwest and I could not be more excited!

My sweetheart and I will be staying for three nights in Seattle to get our city fix. There is a ton to see and do and I'm planning on shopping, dining, and touring to the max.

A whale watching tour is on our list too. I just hope I do not get so excited that I forget to snap some photos! This is something that has been on my bucket list for a long time!

Next we are heading to Port Angeles. For those of you who are Twilight fans this is the heart of it all. I am looking forward to exploring the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National Park. There are all those wonderful wineries to explore too.

So don't expect me back for awhile. I'm taking my camera(s), of course, and will return with many pics and experiences to share.
