Thank you Photo Grunt!

I wish to thank Steve Raley at Photo Grunt for recently featuring my work in his photography feature called "Tagline Roulette." I am very honored to be included in this esteemed group. He has chosen twelve remarkable photos with the keyword, Pacific. Check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Steve is a very talented photographer himself. I love his urban photography particularly the black and white. His street scenes transport you right into his shoes. You can feel the city vibration and grit coming right out of the photo. Turkish Delight Fog is one of my favorites. You can see more of Steve's work for yourself at his Etsy shop. Beach Log
The surf beaten giant log was aged to a gray patina with the silhouettes of other giant trees still standing in the distance against a blue sky.

Inspiration by Bresson and Adams

The work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Ansel Adams never fails to inspire me to reach higher and try harder with my photography. Bresson with his wonderful urban European shots of people going about their day and Adams with his fabulous captures of nature. I do not compare myself to these two geniuses in anyway, but wish to share my latest black and white photo that was inspired by the work of these two icons in photography.

This black and white photograph was taken at Second Beach in Olympic National Park, WA, USA. On this warm "end of summer" day, the surf was rough and the breakers coming in were crashing against the rocky shoreline.

The aged and surf beaten giant log was a wall between the ocean and the forest. It had once stood at least one hundred feet tall before it fell to time. Now it has become a lovely spot to sit and eat lunch.

A Walk on Second Beach - Part 2

The blizzard in Colorado has moved east and the sun is shining. We have plowed the road and ventured outside. The rambunctious young dog ran freely with pent up energy and plunged into the snow totally disappearing and then popped up looking surprised and happy. Ahhh, Colorado.

But today's post is about our vacation last month to the Pacific Northwest and specifically the wild beaches of Olympic National Park. This collection has taken a turn toward a contemporary feel and accentuates the simplicity of the wild seashore at Second Beach. Enjoy and share your thoughts!

A Walk on Second Beach - Part 1

A blizzard is raging outside of my cozy studio while I work on photography from our vacation last month. The contrast is startling when I look from my computer screen image of a sunny seashore to the icicles and snow outside of my window.

It was a rare sunny day in Olympic National Park when we walked along Second Beach. The early fall air felt surprisingly warm as the couple walked hand in hand far off into the distance and soaked in the delicious scent of the sea. The crashing surf and the call of sea birds filled the air with a cacophony of thundering noise. But inside I was still. The sea soothing my soul like a fragrant balm as we too walked hand in hand into the distance.

Colette's Garden

Our destination on the Olympic Peninsula was Colette's Bed and Breakfast. We found this charming retreat online and were not disappointed. In fact, it is not often one can say this, but it was even better than expected. Every detail was seen to for our comfort and enjoyment. The gourmet breakfast sustained us until dinner and the afternoon wine and cheese was delightful. But my favorite moments were the ones spent leisurely wandering the gardens with wine glass in one hand and my sweetheart's hand in my other. Come along and let Colette's Garden rest your mind and delight your senses.
