In my last post I’ve listed top 10 website where you can find and download really creative brushes to reach a various range of effects. New brushes are very important for designers to obtain particular effects. You have not to think about sparkling stars everywhere but, for example, brushes could be useful to make fog and smoke appear where there aren't.
The installation technique can be used in several occasions because it is always the same even in order to install textures, patterns, action and other stuffs.
Obviously, once installed, you also have to be able to load the brush and modify its properties to make it suitable for the job.
Has we have seen you can download thousand of them or even to create one by yourself. As example I’ve downloaded the brush Cloud from http://javierzhx.deviantart.com/art/Cloud-Brushes-34277964 (thanks to Javier).
Put your brush into the appropriate folder.
Go into your Programs folder and, inside the Adobe group, look for the Brushes folder under Photoshop one.
i.e. C:\Programs\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Brushes
Copy the brush here before opening the program.
Now open Photoshop (or Illustrator, the procedure is the same you just have to put the brush in the right folder) an click the brush tool.
On the very top you can see the Preset Brush Picker.
Click it and than on the small arrow button. This opens a submenu where you find the brush that you have copied listed here and ready to use.
Selecting the new brush the program shows you a window asking whether you want to append the new brush set to the others or prefer to replace them.
Don’t mind, even if you replace them they always are available for reloading, you just need to click on Reset Brushes.
Once you have loaded the brush you can select between a set of options to make it works according to your needs.
Open the Brushes Window and play with the different options.
The brushes window palette has inside several check boxes that changes your brush behavior giving impressive results.
Note: if you already have started to manipulate a photo and than you would like to load a new brush you can also do that immediately click on the Preset Brush Picker and clicking on Load. This open the brush anywhere saved into your pc. Select the brush that you want to load.
