2010 Dakar Rally - Awesome Photos...

The 31st running of the Dakar Rally is being held in South America for the second year, instead of the traditional African route, due to ongoing security concerns. This year's race began and will end in Buenos Aires, covering a looping 9,000 kilometers between Argentina and Chile over 14 stages. 362 Teams began the race with 176 motorcycles and quad bikes, 134 cars, and 52 trucks. The race is just over halfway completed now, the winners expected to cross the finish line on January 16th. Collected here are several photographs from the first 8 stages of this year's rally.

Tasty Desert Dish - Strange Photos...

Here is something quite strange. Not everybody can look at a lizard and think of how tasty they can be but in the pictures you see a man catching a lizard to do just that. Their population is large enough for people to hunt them down for food. Desert is their habitat and it is quite common to hunt them for food. It is sad that they are killed just for their tails and one can only hope that this killing doesn’t lead to their extinction.

These lizards can be found in the desert, hiding under rocks. You will see how their tails are used to make a dish. The rest of the body gets wasted. They are cooked in a pot along with vegetables and rice. Although they don’t look very appetizing, in places where food is scarce, I suppose this is like a luxury.

Friday Favorites - Desert Color

I have always loved vibrant desert color. The color of a Sedona sunset, coral and turquoise jewelry, and the giant red mesas in the old John Wayne movies of my childhood send a warm happy feeling right through me and down to my toes. Enjoy these gorgeous pieces from some very talented artisans. Please visit their shops by clicking on the piece's title. Enjoy!
